Overview
The Red Fort in Delhi is also known as the Lal Qila. It stands tall as one of the best heritage sites of the city, well-preserved and full of interesting stories
. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in a span of about 9 years and became the home of the Mughals during their reign in the city. The red sandstone structure is a sight to behold, as it stands out from the modern structures of the city. Inside the fort, you can also find palaces, halls and even a mosque, most of which have been converted into museums, showcasing the lavish lifestyle of the Mughal era. The fort and its inner structures give you a peak of the intricacy and accuracy of the architectural style from the bygone era. And although some of the structures are already in ruins, they still exude a sense of grandeur and royalty.

As you can see from the table above, the nearest metro station to the Red Fort is the Chandni Chowk Metro Station. It is about 1.5 kilometres away from the Red Fort, so just a walking distance of about 20 minutes. The other metro stations are located quite far away from the Red Fort. There's the Rama Krishna Ashram Marg Metro Station, which is about 5 kilometres away from the Red Fort. It can take you an hour or so just to reach the attraction by walking from this station. These two metro stations are your only best choices, the other metro stations are too far away and would require a taxi ride at least. The former two can either be walked or you can ride an auto rickshaw from them to the Red Fort.
The Chandni Chowk Metro Station - Details
The Chandni Chowk Metro Station is the nearest metro station to the Red Fort. It is located on the Yellow Line of the Delhi Metro. It is also a walking distance away from the Old Delhi Railway Station of the Indian Railways. It is an underground metro station, preceded by the the Chawri Bazar Metro Station and succeeded by the Kashmiri Gate Metro Station.
If you're coming from New Delhi, fare is very minimal too, at Rs. 8 only and travel time is merely 4 minutes. If however, you're coming from a different line, like the Blue Line of Anand Vihar, you just need to switch line at Rajiv Chowk into the Yellow Line. From there, ride a train going to the Chandni Chowk Metro Station. Fare would be around Rs. 18 and travel time would be around 30 minutes.
The Chandni Chowk Metro Station has different gates. Its two main gates are for the Old Delhi Railway Station and for the Chandni Chowk, of course. So you need to access the latter gate, also known as the Sis Ganj Gurudwara Gate or Favvara Gate, located on the way towards Chandni Chowk. From this gate, you can walk further to reach the Red Fort or take an auto rickshaw to take you there.
The Verdict
So since you're coming from Kurukshetra, you can easily ride a train from the Kurukshetra Junction Railway Station to the New Delhi Railway Station. The New Delhi Metro Station is just a walking distance from the New Delhi Railway Station. From there, just ride a train going to the Chandni Chowk Metro Station, remember it's on the Yellow Line. And make sure that you exit through the Sis Ganj Gurudwara Gate or Favvara Gate to reach the Red Fort from the metro station.
