The itinerary is a bit cramped but manageable, do not add anything else to this, otherwise you will be on a tight schedule. The weather in the month of October will be quite cold especially during the night and early mornings. November will be even colder.

Take the usual route from Pathankot to Udhampur and then the road from Jammu to Udhampur, which is a decent road in good condition. You will have problems after Udhampur and this is where the most time can be taken, which would also depend on traffic. You should avoid the Udhampur bypass.

I have tired the actual GPS device and GPS service on a mobile phone, there is absolutely no difference in the two, they work the same way in fact the women's voice is the same too ;). The only difference is that the GPS device is dedicated to only GPS services and a mobile has a number of features.

For treks you really need to go to a hilly area, and I would recommend Lansdowne which is around six hours away from Delhi. Lansdowne has a lot of small traks such as Bhairavgarhi and Tarkeshwar. If you leave on a Friday you can be back by Monday.
