My friends family and my family we be planning a Goa vacation in October this year and wish to go to Colva, we are thinking of booking the Laben Resort, is this a good budget choice hotel?

We also need recommendations on some good must see places in Colva and around the area.

Laben is a good budget hotel and you wont really get anything better than this. Regarding site seeing I would suggest you take a trip conducted Spice Farms this is an easy way to see different things around the area. You can also go on boat trips which are on the river Sal and the boat trip includes lunch and drinks.

I would also like to suggest that maybe you change the beach you have chosen simply because there are better and cleaner beaches than there are at Colva.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

The La Ben Resort in Goa is a good budget hotel. It is about 20 kms away from the airport, about 6 kms from the city of Margao and about 8 kms from the railway station. Here are their room tariffs:
    • Their Standard AC Room is at Rs. 950 from June 1 to September 30. The rate changes during peak season, it's at Rs. 1,400 which is from October 1 to December 15. From December 16 to January 31, this is the highest peak season, the room is at Rs. 2,400 per night. From February 1 to May 31, the room tariff is at Rs. 1,400.
    • Their Standard Non-AC Room is at Rs. 700 from June 1 to September 30. The rate changes during peak season, it's at Rs. 1,100 which is from October 1 to December 15. From December 16 to January 31, this is the highest peak season, the room is at Rs. 2,000 per night. From February 1 to May 31, the room tariff is at Rs. 1,100.
They also have special packages if you choose to stay in the resort for two or more nights. They also conduct sight seeing tours and transportation options for guests. Rooms come with a balcony overlooking the gardens of the resort and ceiling fans. The AC Rooms has air-conditioning and television as well.

There's also a bar in the resort premises. You can also opt for in-room dining. The resort is just a three minute walk away from the beautiful Colva Beach. It is also just about 4.4 kms from the Betalbatim Beach.

Here are some of the places you can visit in Colva:
    • Church of Lady of Mercy - In Portuguese, this church is called the Nossa Senhora das Merces Igreja em Colva, Goa. This church was originally built in the year 1630. The statue of Menino Jesus can be found securely locked in vault in this church. Every second Monday of October, the Colva Fama is celebrated annually on this church, which draws a large number of locals and tourists alike.
    • Colva Village - The local people in Colva are mostly Hindus or migrants from Portugal territories such as Angola and Mozambique. The usual occupation of the locals is fishing.
    • Church of St. John - This church is situated on a hill nearby the village. This church was founded by the Jesuits during 1581. It is also known as Sao Joao Baptista Igreja em Benaulim, Goa in Portuguese.
    • Betalbatim Beach - This beach is located to the North of Colva Beach. Its unique feature is that it has pine trees all around instead of the usual palm trees in the beaches of Goa. There are a few shacks around the beach but it's less commercialised than Colva Beach.
    • Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary - This is about 37 kms from Colva. This is the nearest wildlife sanctuary to Colva. You can spot sambars, Indian bisons and Malabar giant squirrels here.
    Things to do in Colva:
    • Water Sports - One of the agencies conducting water sports here is the Chris Water Sports. They have equipments for parasailing, boat cruising, jet skiing and speed boating. They also have banana boat rides and dolphin rides. They also conduct island tours.
    • Watch a Bull Fight - The bull fights are conducted during the months of October to late May. It is usually held on old rice fields with no fences or barricades outside the village.
I hope this helps. Have fun!
