In December I will be visiting Manali with my family. We have always preferred staying in government hotels and guesthouses and want the same when visiting Manali.

We would like to know what options we have for Himachal Tourism hotels in Manali, so we can choose the appropriate accommodation and make our bookings.

Hello there, welcome to the forum!

The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation has a total of six hotels/lodges around Manali. Whether you're looking for a luxury, mid-range or budget accommodation, you can find one suitable for you. Further, their rates are very affordable, as compared to the same hotels in the area. Thus, you save some money and in a way, contribute to the tourism industry even more.

List of HPTDC Hotels in Manali

    Budget

    1. Hotel Beas - Located close to the Beas River is the Hotel Beas, managed by the HPTDC of course. It is basically a budget hotel but its location doesn't seem like. From your room's window or balcony, the view of the river is stunning and even its gurgling can be heard. From a distance, the views of the mountains and jungles would calm your spirits. The hotel itself is fairly simple, with its combination of white, yellow and blue facade. Rooms are cozy with carpeted floorings, a huge bed, large windows and basic amenities. There's also a small garden within the hotel where there's a fantastic view of the river. Their in-house restaurant serves both local and international cuisines, the prices are quite affordable too. The best part of staying here is enjoying a cup of tea while taking in the beautiful view of the Beas River in front of you.

    2. Tourist Lodge - This is also located near the Beas River, but is more suitable for backpackers. Rates here are on a per bed basis, much like a dormitory. As a family, you can opt to rent out a whole dormitory, but you'd have to inquire about it from the management. The room is very basic, with just beds and a desk. The bathroom is also a shared one plus there is no hot water available, you'd have to request for it at about Rs. 10 per bucket. There's also a small canteen within the lodge, serving fresh and hot meals to guests. The main city centre of Manali is about five minutes of walking away from the tourist lodge. A downside with this hotel is that you cannot book a room in advance so there's the hassle of reaching there only to find out that it's fully booked especially during peak season.
    • Room Rates - One Bed in Dormitory at Rs. 75 per night.
    • Room Amenities - Beds, desk and shared bathroom.
    • Hotel Amenities - Canteen and parking.
    • Address - Banks of Beas River, Manali, Manali Tehsil 175131, India.

    Mid-Range

    1. Hadimba Cottages - Featuring wooden exteriors and interiors, the Hadimba Cottages mainly cater to the honeymoon couples. The cottages are spacious but only has one room, along with a living room/dining area and a kitchen. If ever cooking your own meals can be too much for you, the management does provide meals, either from their own kitchen or through arrangements from the other HPTDC hotels, or even from nearby restaurants. The cottages are quite old though, as compared to the luxurious Log Huts. But if you're in a budget and want to at least have a place romantic with your loved one, this is a good option. The views from the room are also quite stunning, with the Himalayan ranges from a distant.

    2. Hamta Huts - Also created mostly for the honeymoon couples are the Hamta Huts. They are located close to Old Manali, so you can easily reach the quaint cafes and restaurants around the town. But the downside is that the huts are placed in a remote area so you are too far away from the city centre. The huts are not as glamorous nor well-maintained as well. For a short stay though, they will do since you do have a good view still when staying here. But if you have money to spare, just choose any other hotel of the HPTDC aside from the Hamta Huts.

    3. Hotel Kunzam - Located right at The Mall Road area, this hotel is a perfect fit for those who enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city. You can easily reach restaurants, shopping complexes and cafes while staying in this hotel. Rooms won't have mountain views though so that's a downside. They are spacious at least and come with all the necessary amenities. The hotel also has an in-house restaurant serving Indian and Himachal cuisine to guests. The hotel also has a business centre where you can access internet, but internet is not available in the room itself.

    4. The Rohtang Manalsu - This hotel is about one kilometre away from The Mall Road area. While the rates for the Block B rooms are quite affordable, it's better to opt for rooms in the Block A. They are more expensive but they are newly built and thus, more modern and even more well-maintained. As mentioned, there are two blocks or buildings, both have an outer white facade. Rooms are spacious, with simple white interiors as well. All rooms have carpeted floorings though and you can avail of a room heater for a surcharge. The restaurant serves mainly vegetarian cuisine but you can request for non-vegetarian dishes too.

    Luxury

    1. Log Huts - Set amidst lush greenery and the backdrop of the mountains, the Log Huts are perfect for families with its two-bedroom setup. The cottages are quite spacious and even has its own kitchen complete with cooking amenities. You can choose between their Log Hut or their Orchard Hut, with the former being more exquisite and high end. Another good feature of these huts is that they are clean and more well-mainitained as compared to the other accommodations. For meals, you can either make your own or request from the management. Hot water can also be requested for bathing. The huts though are about a 20-minute walk away from the main Mall Road area so you might need a vehicle to reach it if you have small kids with you.
