I have just moved to Delhi and sorting many things out, I have got some help from the forum which some queries I had, and thought I would ask something which has not been mentioned in the forum.

I will be traveling by metro on daily basis to my office and I would like to know how to get a Delhi Metro smart card?

    Do I need any documents?

    What is the cost?

In order to get a Delhi Metro smart card, you need to visit any metro station and go to the customer counter and ask for a smart card.

When getting the card you need to pay Rs50 which is used as a security deposit and is refunded when you return the card back

The minimum recharge of the Delhi metro smart card is Rs100 and maximum recharge is Rs1000.

The card is valid for up to one year and can be renewed at a charge of Rs5.

Congratulations on your move to Delhi! The metro is a fantastic way to navigate the city, and a smart card will definitely make your daily commute smoother.

Getting a Delhi Metro smart card is easy and doesn't require any documents. Here's what you need to know:

How to Obtain a Smart Card:

    • You can purchase a smart card at two locations:
Customer Care Centre (CCC): These are located at every Delhi Metro station. Just look for signs or ask a staff member for directions.
Smart Card Vending Machine (SCVM): These machines are available at selected stations only.

    Cost:
    • The minimum cost for a new smart card is ₹100, which includes:
₹50 - refundable security deposit (returned when you return the card)
₹50 - initial top-up amount for your travel

    Additional Points:

    • You can recharge your smart card at any CCC, some TVMs (Ticket Vending Machines), Point-of-Sale (POS) machines, or even online through TR cum AVMs (at selected stations).
    • When buying your card, you might be offered different options like a regular card or a tourist card (valid for 1 or 3 days with unlimited rides). Choose the one that best suits your needs.
