I am going to Daman with my parents, and while being there, I would also like to make a short trip to Diu. Not being from the area I have not idea how far Diu is from Daman but know they are kind of close enough.

I would like some suggestions on how to go from Daman to Diu?

What mode of transport should we use?

What would a taxi cost be from Daman to Diu?

Hi, @Chiklit! Welcome to the forum!

The road distance between Daman and Diu is about 635 kilometres. It's a long way and can take you around 12 to 14 hours to cover by driving. Here are your transportation options from Daman to Diu:

    1. By Bus - There are a few private bus operators plying directly from Daman to Diu. Here they are:
    • Ekta Tours and Travels (Non AC Sleeper Bus) - This bus departs from the ST Bus Depot in Daman. It is located near the Rajiv Gandhi Setu in Nani Daman. It departs from Daman at 4:30 pm and arrives in Diu at 8:00 am. Journey duration is around 16 hours. Fare is at Rs. 600 per passenger.
    • Bharat Express (Non AC Sleeper Bus) - This bus departs from the Dunetha in Daman. It is located opposite the bus stand in the city centre of Daman. It departs from Daman at 4:30 pm and arrives in Diu at 7:15 am. Journey duration is around 15 hours. Fare is at Rs. 600 per passenger.
You can book a bus directly from the offices of these agencies in Daman or through online booking sites like Red Bus or Make My Trip. There's also one bus plying this route daily, operated by the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC). Here is its timing:
    • GSRTC (Ordinary Bus) - This bus departs from Daman at 6:45 pm and arrives in Diu at 11:30 am, of the next day. Journey duration is around 16 hours. Fare is at Rs. 322 per passenger.
You can book this bus through the GSRTC website or through another site like Bus India.

    2. By Train - Daman does not have its own railway station, neither does Diu. The nearest railway station to Diu is the Delvada Railway Station, which is about 10.5 kilometres away from Diu. The nearest railway station to Daman is the Vapi Railway Station which is about 12 kilometres away from the former. You can just ride a taxi to reach the Vapi Railway Station. However, there are no direct trains going to the Delvada Railway Station from Vapi. You need to pass through Veraval Railway Station first. So your route would be:
    • Daman > Taxi to Vapi Railway Station > Train to Veraval Railway Station > Train to Delvada Railway Station > Taxi to Diu.
Here are the trains passing through Vapi to Veraval:
    • Veraval Express Train No. 16334 - This train departs during Wednesdays from Vapi at 1:02 and arrives in Veraval at 16:55.
    • Pune Veraval Express Train No. 11088 - This train departs during Fridays from Vapi at 1:45 and arrives in Veraval at 16:55.
Journey duration is around 13 hours to 15 hours. Minimum fares for this route are: Rs. 2,570 for 1A, Rs. 1,960 for 2A, Rs. 1,055 for 3A and Rs. 495 for SL. From Veraval Railway Station, you can opt to reach Diu via bus or taxi, since it's only about 107 kilometres away. Or you can ride a passenger train from Veraval to Delvada Railway Station, here is its timing:
    • Veraval Delvada Passenger Train No. 52949 - This train departs daily from Veraval at 16:20 and arrives in Delvada at 19:55.
Journey duration is around 3 hours and 30 minutes. From Delvada Railway Station, Diu is just 10.5 kilometres away so you can just ride a taxi to reach it.

    3. By Hired Car or Taxi - This can be the most expensive way to reach Diu from Daman. Taxi fares vary but it averages between Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 15,000, for a one-way trip. You'd be able to reach Diu faster though this way and it is also the most comfortable option.

    So, in summary:
    • Fastest way to reach Diu from Daman - Hired car or taxi
    • Least expensive way to reach Diu from Daman - Bus
    • Most comfortable way to reach Diu from Daman - Hired car or taxi, or higher class in train
So it depends really upon you, but if you have the money for it, hiring a car or taxi is the best way and the most comfortable way. Otherwise, train journey is also a good option. For those in a budget, bus journey is the best way to go.

    I hope this helps you.:)
