I would like to know how to reach Badrinath from Delhi?

I do not want to drive to Badrinath and would rather be on public transport. What options do I have for reaching Badrinath on public transport?

I would like to be on a Volvo bus as it is a comfortable ride, but not sure if this is available for Badrinath.

Please provide all the information you have about reaching Badrinath.

Hi there, welcome to the forum!

Here are your public transportation options from Delhi to Badrinath:

    1. By Bus - There are no direct buses from Delhi to Badrinath. Your option would be to go to Haridwar from Delhi and then, ride another bus from Haridwar to Joshimath/Badrinath. So your route would be:
    • Delhi > Bus to Haridwar > Bus to Joshimath/Badrinath.
From Delhi to Haridwar, there are many buses plying this route. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation or UPSRTC have several buses plying this route. These are their timings:
    • UPSRTC Volvo Buses - These buses depart at 1:15 pm, 3:00 pm, 10:16 pm, 11:00 pm and 11:30 pm from the Kashimiri Gate in Delhi. The buses then arrive in Haridwar at 7:35 pm, 3:45 am and 4:10 am respectively. Fare is at Rs. 631 per passenger. Journey duration is around 5 hours.
    • UPSRTC Jan Rath Buses - These buses depart at 5:30 pm, 4:30 pm, 12:00 pm, 3:30 am and 12:30 pm from the Kashimiri Gate in Delhi. The buses then arrive in Haridwar at 9:45 pm, 5:15 pm and 6:00 pm respectively. Fare is at Rs. 383 per passenger. Journey duration is around 5 hours.
There are also private buses plying this route. Here are their timings:
    • Adventure Booking Centre (AC Seater) - These buses depart at 11:30 pm and 11:35 pm from the Ashram Metro Station in Delhi. The buses then arrive in Haridwar at 5:00 am and 5:30 am respectively. Fare is at Rs. 500 per passenger. Journey duration is around 6 hours.
    • Blue World Tourist Company (AC Seater) - These buses depart at 11:15 pm, 11:30 pm and 11:35 pm from the Ashram Metro Station in Delhi. The buses then arrive in Haridwar at 4:00 am, 5:00 am and 5:00 am respectively. Fare is at Rs. 500 per passenger. Journey duration is around 5 hours.
    • Crown Travels (AC Seater) - These buses depart at 11:05 am and 11:00 pm from the Ashram Metro Station in Delhi. The buses then arrive in Haridwar at 5:00 pm and 5:30 am respectively. Fare is at Rs. 599 per passenger. Journey duration is around 5 hours.
From Haridwar, there are buses plying to Badrinath directly. However, they leave very early in the morning starting from 4:30 am and the last bus usually leaves at 7:00 am. So make sure you're in the station before these timings. Otherwise, you can just go to Rishikesh where there are shared jeeps going to Badrinath. Here is one bus timing I was able to find for Haridwar to Rishikesh:
    • UPSRTC Volvo Bus - This bus departs from Haridwar at 3:45 pm and arrives in Rishikesh at 4:45 pm. Fare is at Rs. 151 per passenger.
Buses from Rishikesh also leave early in the morning. Shared jeeps also leave very early in the morning. So if you're not able to ride in these buses or jeeps, you have to stay overnight in Rishikesh and wait for the next day to board the early buses or jeeps.

    2. By Train - Badrinath doesn't have its own railway station. The nearest railway station is at Rishikesh, which is about 297 kms from Badrinath. There is only one train plying for this route:
    • Delhi Rishikesh Passenger Train No. 54471 - This departs daily from Delhi at 17:35 and arrives in Rishikesh at 4:20.
Since it's a passenger train, you cannot reserve the ticket. Another train station near to Badrinath is the Kotdwara Railway Station, which is about 327 kms from the former. Here is one train timing for this from Delhi:
    • Garhwal Express Train No. 14044 - This departs daily from Delhi at 7:20 and arrives in Kotdwara at 14:15.
From Kotdwar, you can just ride a taxi to reach Rishikesh. From Rishikesh, you have the same options as mentioned above.

    3. By Air - The nearest airport to Badrinath is the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. This is about 317 kms away from Badrinath. Here are some flight timings from Delhi to the Jolly Grant Airport:
    • Spice Jet SG 124 - This departs from Delhi at 11:25 and arrives at the Jolly Grant Airport at 12:25. Fare is at Rs. 2,288 per passenger.
    • Spice Jet SG 2327 - This departs from Delhi at 15:15 and arrives at the Jolly Grant Airport at 16:10. Fare is at Rs. 2,288 per passenger.
    • Indigo 6E 246 - This departs from Delhi at 16:25 and arrives at the Jolly Grant Airport at 17:25. Fare is at Rs. 2,763 per passenger.
    • Indigo 6E 964 - This departs from Delhi at 11:20 and arrives at the Jolly Grant Airport at 12:10. Fare is at Rs. 3,029 per passenger.
    • Indigo 6E 644 - This departs from Delhi at 13:00 and arrives at the Jolly Grant Airport at 13:55. Fare is at Rs. 3,029 per passenger.
From Dehradun, just go to the ISBT and ride these buses plying to Haridwar:
    • Uttarakhand Roadways Buses - They have several timings: 9:00, 9:15, 10:00, 10:15, 13:45, 14:45, 17:00, 17:30 and 18:30.
There is also one bus plying this route:
    • Rao Tours and Travels (AC Seater Sleeper) - This departs from Dehradun at 10:45 pm and arrives in Haridwar at 11:30 pm. Fare is at Rs. 599 per passenger.
And again, from Haridwar, you can just board the early morning buses going to Joshimath/Badrinath.

    I hope this helps!

    P.S.

There are Volvo Buses but they do not reach Badrinath directly. The Volvo Buses are available from Delhi to Haridwar and from Haridwar to Rishikesh. Thereafter, there are only ordinary buses plying from Haridwar to Badrinath or from Rishikesh to Badrinath.
