Before leaving for India I didn't have enough time to do the course of Rabies vaccination in the home country. Can I get the pre exposure vaccines in India and how expensive it is? I am concerned because I have some rural places in my list, which I must visit and it is possible that for a couple of days I will be days away from any good hospital. I have travel health insurance for any emergency but I think it’s better to take precaution.
Yes, Rabies vaccination is available everywhere in India and it should not cost you anywhere more than INR. 500 per shot ($10) including fees of doctor who will give you the vaccine. I assume you will land in Delhi so once you reach just go to any chemist shop near AIIMS or Dr. Max Hospital and you can easily get it from there. I have one more point: If you are not planning to play or fool around with street dogs in India then there is no need of any Rabies vaccination, I am frequent visitor to Indian from last 30 years and I never took any vaccination so far. Its for dogs and its better if we let the dogs enjoy this medicine Bam Bam Bhole
