dress code

My wife and I would be travelling to Goa this month. I want to whether it is safe for Indian women to wear bikinis in Goa. I am travelling from London to Delhi to Goa.

I was wondering if there is any kind of etiquette or things I should know when it comes to Indian beaches? Is it okay to wear just a bikini or do we have to dress modestly? Sorry if this sounds really ignorant but I have no idea and wouldn't want to do anything that offended people.
