Hi forum members, I would like to find out more about the Amber fort light and sound show. A few questions which I have are as follows: Where exactly is Amber Fort located in Rajasthan? Is there an entry fee to see the light and sound show? What can we expect from the show, as in what is the purpose of it? What are the timings of the light and sound show?
Hello, @Akshara! Welcome to the forum! Amber Fort is also known as Amer Fort. The fort is believed to have even built by Raja Man Singh during 967 CE. The present structure though has undergone through several renovations by different rulers like Jai Singh I and the Rajput Maharajas. The Amer Fort is also included in the six forts of Rajasthan which were declared as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The fort is known for its Hindu style of architecture, with large ramparts, series of gates and cobbled gates. The fort also overlooks the Maota Lake, which is its main source of water. Amber Fort is located in Amer, a town within 11 kms away from Jaipur. It stands on a rocky hill of Cheel Ka Teela, right next to the Maota Lake. You can ride a bus from Ajmeri Gate and MI Road to reach Amber Fort from the centre of Jaipur. Or you can just ride a taxi to take you there. You can reach the top of the hill two ways: by foot or by riding an elephant. Walking it can take you about 20 minutes and an elephant ride can take about 10 minutes but you'd have to queue for a few minutes for it. Yes, there is a fee to see the light and sound show in the evening: Summer English Show at 7:30 pm for Rs. 200 Hindi Show at 8:30 pm for Rs. 100 Winter English Show at 6:30 pm for Rs. 200 Hindi Show at 7:30 pm for Rs. 100 You can get tickets directly from the office at Amber Fort. Or from other locations like Kesar Kyari, Jantar Mantar and Albert Hall. The Light and Sound Show highlights the history of the Amber Fort. The show's script is made by Gulzar, a legendary film maker in Bollywood. The show takes place below the fort, near the Maota Lake. The area has benches in which the tourists can sit in. There's a narration accompanied by the lighting of the fort which is quite stunning in the evening time. The show discusses the different conquerors and rulers that ruled the Amber Fort. These are the Meenas, Kachwahas and the Rajput Maharajas. Apart from the fort, the structures inside the fort are also included in the story. These are its four courtyards, the Jaleb Chowk, Amber Palace and many more structures. The show's purpose is to give a deeper understanding about the fort. It lets tourists, especially foreigners, know more about its history and what important events took place in it. It helps the people know who established the fort and even who conquered it during the ancient times. It's a great way to end your day after visiting the fort as it summarises what you have seen throughout your visit. The timings of the show vary depending on the season: Summer English Show at 7:30 pm Hindi Show at 8:30 pm Winter English Show at 6:30 pm Hindi Show at 7:30 pm I hope his helps!
