It's best to wear clothing which is designed for water sports.

Many years ago when I went river rafting I didn't exactly have water sports clothing but wore my dri-fit clothing, which served the same kind of purpose. The dri fit (gym clothes also known as sweat resistant clothes) don't get ruined and are also comfortable to wear for water sports.

If you don't have dri fit clothing, you can wear normal clothes, they won't get ruined as its only water which would be going on the clothes so there is no need to worry about protecting the clothes. However, when you get wet the clothes would soak the water easily, which may make you feel uncomfortable if you going to be doing other things straight after river rafting.
