Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and have joined to find out how to apply for a passport. I have the same passport, which was renewed many years ago and I now need to apply for a new passport for my two-year-old daughter. I would like to know what the procedures are to apply for a passport and where I need to go with the application.
Hi there, welcome to the forum! For minors, they would need to undergo the same steps, just like adults, for applying for a new Indian passport. So first of all, make sure that you have your child's birth certificate. Make sure that all the details in the birth certificate are correct, like the first name, middle name, surname, address and such information. After which, you can proceed to the normal procedures: How to Apply for Indian Passport for Minors Go to the Passport Seva website and register an account. Click on the New User Register button and fill in the details needed. These include your name, address, date of birth, etc. Make sure that the email address that you would register is a working one and that you can access it. Open your email and click on the link to activate your account. Once activated, click on the Apply for Fresh Passport/Reissue of Passport button. You have two options at this point: either download the PDF file and answer it offline or fill out the application form completely online. Both ways work but downloading the file allows you to make changes at a later time or in case your internet gets disconnected. If you choose to download the application form, you need to upload it once completed. If you choose to fill the application form online, you need to just save it once completed. Submit the application to proceed to the next step. Click on the submitted application in order for you to schedule an appointment. Click on the Pay and Schedule Appointment button. You would then be given the choices for paying and you have to select the most convenient for you. You can then select your preferred schedule and make the required payment. Print the Application Receipt and bring that on the day of the scheduled appointment. Here are the documents you need to prepare for your child's passport: Both parents are alive, legally together and available for the appointment date Proof of date of birth with extra copy (Birth certificate issued by a Municipal Authority or any other office authorised by the Registrar of Births & Deaths to issue a Birth and Death Certificate) Proof of present address with extra copies (Parent's passport with address, utility bills like water bill or electricity bill and other identification cards like Aadhaar Card and Voter ID) Annexure H (Declaration affirming the particulars furnished in the application about the minor) Passport photograph of the child with white background Application receipt Only one parent available for the appointment date All the requirements mentioned above plus download the Annexure G in the Passport Seva website signed by the present parent. Or the parent not available can download the Annexure H and sign it, duly attested by the Indian Mission abroad. If both parents are abroad All the requirements mentioned above plus fully signed Annexure H by both parents duly attested by Indian Mission abroad and a local guardian that can submit the application for them. If the local guardian is not the grandparent of the child, then you need an affidavit for two more responsible persons. Single parent unable to obtain permission of the other parent All the requirements mentioned above plus Annexure C signed by the single parent. On the day of your appointment, you have to reach the required Passport Seva office at least 15 minutes before your schedule. There are certain offices that allow walk-in clients (only minors and seniors) but not all offices allow it. So do check beforehand if you'd like to be a walk-in client. Still, the best option is to just schedule an appointment through their website. On that day, here are the steps you need to take: Procedures at the Passport Office on Scheduled Appointment First, if both parents are there but the spouse's name is not endorsed in either passport, then you need to do that. Don't worry as you can do both at the same time, application for your child's passport and endorsement of your spouse's name on the passport. The process takes no more than an hour and it's really simple just make sure that both the parents brought their passports. But if you already have your spouse's name in your passport, skip this step. After showing all your documents and copies, you would then be given a token. Go to Counter A where your documents would be scanned. The child and parents would also need to sign the application form. If the child is older than 4 years old, his photo would be taken as well as his thumb marks. Wait for a while until you're called and go to Counter B. Your documents would be verified again and you would be sent to Counter C. This is also where your documents can get rejected if they do not follow the required formats or if they are not sufficient. Again, at Counter C, your documents would be verified and you'd be given the token number page. Proceed to the last step. The last step is at the Exit Counter and you need to show them the token number page. Once done, they will give you an acknowledgement letter. Before you exit, the guard would take the token number page and you're left with the acknowledgement letter only. Keep this as it is mandatory for police clearance. Your application number is important as you can track the status of your child's application with it. The passport, once approved, would then be sent to your address, the one you registered with, by courier. If all the documents are correct, then police verification won't be necessary for the child. Normal applications take around one to two weeks to be completed. If you need the passport to earlier than that, then you have to apply for tatkal. I hope this helps you!
