I am from Mysore and have joined this forum to find out some suggestions to what places to visit near Mysore. Traveling with me would be my children aged 15 and 16 years old and my wife. I don't want to go too far out from Mysore. I think maybe a maximum of 200km - 250km distance would be suitable.

There is no particular place we want to visit, but just want to get out Mysore to relax and have some good family time together.

Hello, @Shubu! Welcome to the forum!

Here are some places under 250 kilometres away from Mysore:

Places to Visit Near Mysore (Under 250 Kilometres Away)

    1. Bandipur - This is just about 77.4 kilometres away from Mysore. The main attraction here is the Bandipur National Park which sees a surge of tourists especially during weekends. One good feature of this national park is that it remains untouched by modernisation. Tigers are not tracked here and it depends on your luck whether you'd be able to spot one. The ecosystem of the national park is a thriving one and the animal food cycle is not disturbed. Some of the animals you might be able to spot here, aside from tigers, are Indian elephants, bonnet macaques, langurs, wild dogs, sambars and chitals. The national park is also home to many species of birds like grey herons, golden orioles, fairy bluebirds and peafowls. You can opt for a jeep safari, bus safari or even an elephant safari. You can even opt to stay in the government forest lodge for the ultimate wilderness experience. Yet another wildlife sanctuary worth visiting in Bandipur is the Biligiriranganatha Swamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is home to many species of animals like four-horned antelopes, gaurs, tigers and leopards. But the main attraction here is the Biligiriranganatha Swamy Temple, dedicated to the Lord Vishnu. Just like the former national park, there are forest lodges here where you can spend your night as well. Bandipur is a region rich with natural sceneries and wildlife. So if you're a nature lover, it's a good destination for you especially since it's under 100 kilometres away from Mysore.
    • Must visit places - Bandipur National Park and Biligiriranganatha Swamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary.
    2. Coorg - At a distance of about 107 kilometres away from Mysore, Coorg is one destination you shouldn't miss on this list. From its pleasant climate all-year round, to the wonderful smell of the coffee plantations, it's one of the best destinations in Karnataka. Not to mention the local cuisine, although best fit for non-vegetarians, with their scrumptious use for coconuts, it's sure to leave you eating more than the caloric requirements for the day. And of course, the hill station also doesn't disappoint when it comes to attractions. There are the beautiful waterfalls like the Iruppu Waterfalls and the Abbey Waterfalls, which the whole family would enjoy visiting. Trekking to the Tadiandamol Peak is one activity that most tourists indulge in. Yet another adventure activity that you must do here is Micro Light Flying, it's not for the faint-hearted though. Or for those who are devotees of Shiva, you can visit the Omkareshwara Temple. For the history lovers, do explore the Madikeri Fort and Nalknad Palace. Coorg is a great destination for families, not only because of the plethora of activities that you can do here but also because it allows you to enjoy the calm and scenic views on your own time.
    • Must visit places - Iruppu Waterfalls, Abbey Waterfalls, Tadiandamol Peak, Omkareshwara Temple, Madikeri Fort, Nalknad Palace and many more.
    3. Ooty - This hill station is about 127 kilometres away from Mysore. Perhaps this is the most commercialised hill station in this list so there would be more crowds here. However, the hill station doesn't disappoint on the attractions that you can visit. Pykara Lake is one of the main attractions of the hill station and its picturesque beauty is best appreciated while enjoying a boat ride along its waters. Trekking to reach the Doddabetta Peak is a great activity, not just for adventure seekers but also for families. From its peak, you can enjoy clear views of the valleys below. A more laid-back activity would be exploring the Botanical Gardens, perfect for strolling around on a lazy afternoon with your loved ones. Whatever your reasons for visiting Ooty are, it can give you a hundred more reasons to love it and keep coming back.
    • Must visit places - Pykara Lake, Doddabetta Peak, Botanical Gardens, Saint Stephen's Church and many more.
    4. Wayanad - This is about 131 kilometres away from Mysore. This is yet another hill station but this time in Kerala and probably the least explored out of the other hill stations in this list. Most of the attractions here do require some trekking so you need to be physically fit for them. However, they are also the most beautiful attractions you'd come by especially since they're untouched by commercialism. One of these attractions is the Soochippara Waterfalls. After trekking for about a kilometres, you'd reach the clear blue plunge pool and roaring waterfalls. It's one of those few waterfalls wherein there is water even before the monsoon season. Another must visit here is the Edakkal Caves, where you can view different prehistoric carvings and sketches. Again, you need to trek for about an hour to reach the caves which takes you through coffee plantations and amazing sceneries. A less difficult trek here is the trek to reach Chembra Peak, which involves about an hour or so of walking. The trek is suitable even for children and takes you through forests and hills. Relatively unexplored but definitely an adventurer's paradise, that's Wayanad.
    • Must visit places - Soochippara Waterfalls, Edakkal Caves, Chembra Peak, Lakkidi View Point and many more.
    5. Coonoor - This is about 150 kilometres away from Mysore. From its tea plantations and beautiful view points, Coonoor is a good option for those who just want to have a relaxing vacation. It is far away from the pollution of the city, so you can breathe quite deeply and happily. The attractions here are quite sparse but good enough for a weekend getaway. Explore the peaks of Dolphin's Nose and Lamb's Rock where you can enjoy unending views of the mountains. Sim's Park is another attraction in the hill station where you can opt to walk around or just laze to enjoy the surrounding gardens. For a little more adventure, you can visit the Rallia Dam, where you need to trek around the forests before you can reach the dam proper. Or for those who enjoy historical places, then there's the Droog Fort which sadly, only has one wall remaining now. It's still worth a visit though as the views from here are quite stunning.
    • Must visit places - Dolphin's Nose, Lamb's Rock, Sim's Park, Rallia Dam and Droog Fort.
    6. Bekal - This is about 232 kilometres away from Mysore. If your idea of a vacation is lounging around the sand and enjoying the sea views, then Bekal might be the best option for that. The good thing about the beaches of Bekal is that they're relatively lesser crowded than the other beaches in Kerala. The Bekal Beach is one of the beaches here, it has very clean water although the waves can be rough at times. Nearby the beach, there are two hotels as well that you can stay in. It's almost as if you're in a private beach area which is a nice treat for those who are tired of the crowds in other destinations. You can also visit the Bekal Fort, just nearby the beach. It's hard to miss with its keyhole shaped structure although you won't be able to find any structures inside it. Other remote beaches you can visit near Bekal are the Kappil Beach and Hosdurg Beach.
