What types of fish are commonly seen on menus in India? I eat a lot of seafood when I travel and I am looking forward to trying some authentic Indian fish dishes when I am there.

Indians are fond of eating both freshwater (Macrobrachuim, Mystus, Mrigal, Macrobrchium, Pangasius and Kalbasu just to name a few) and marine fish varieties (may include sharks, sardines, Mullet, ribbon fish, cuttle fish, mud skippers, Seer fish, etc).

I've never heard of those freshwater fish before, are they indigenous to India? I've had sardines before but not any of the other fish. Do any of these fish have a mild taste?

I've never heard of some of these fish either MarilynB. I did look up the Macrobrachuim and found that it is simply a Malaysian Prawn or large shrimp. The Pangasius is a shark catfish also good for eating.
