Does any one know where the Dalai Lama lives in India? I had no idea he lived in India until I read an article yesterday. I would like to go visit him once on my next trip to India.
Dalai Lama lives at Mcleodganj which is near Dharamshala in the state of Himachal Pradesh. It is a large temple complex where he lives but he does not see visitors anymore due to old age. I got a chance to shake hands with him back in 1999 when I was a student. These days lots of tourists go there to learn about Buddhism and also for spending a few days as it is at a higher altitude and in Summers weather is pleasant.
The Dalai Lama lives in Tibet. I'm not sure where you got the idea that he lives in India. He is of Tibetan descent. China claims that Tibet is a integral part of their country, when in actuality it stands alone as it's own territory.
The current Dalai Lama is living in India but he is a refugee there. I think it has to do with China wanting to seize control of Tibet. China thinks Tibet is under their control but it's actually a country on it's own.
Tibetan descent yes but he has been living in India for a long time at Mcleodganj (Dharamshala) in North India. I go there every year so I know that's where his holiness lives.
Sir, May I not at least just get a glimpse of His Holiness, if I visit this Mcleodganj? And a regular yearly visitor, may I please ask you how is the road condition? Is it possible to reach there in a sedan type car, which is the only car I own?
I had always thought he lived in Tibet too - so I have learned something new today! I find the Dalai Lama to be someone that truly wants peace for this world, and he's someone that I would be honored to meet sometime if the opportunity ever presented itself.
No, he left Tibet when it was invaded by the Chinese and ever since he is staying at India. You must be aware that His Holiness Dalai Lama received the noble price for his contribution towards non-violence and world peace.
His holiness does not see visitors anymore without an appointment like he used to before. Road conditions are fine and lots of people go there in their cars. Take the main road on your way back and not the short cut that some people would suggest as descent is steep and even braking becomes a problem on some stretches with tyres skidding at times if you try to come to a complete halt. There is plenty of parking and if you plan to go to the temple there is a parking very close to the temple but the road is one way and you cannot come back using the same road.
Dalai Lama lives at Mcleodganj near Dharamshala in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Mcleodganj is safe and beautiful place in India. Highly recommended
I agree that the Dalai Lama used to live in Tibet, in the Potala temple. But when the Chinese had claimed Tibet and launched a purge, the monks left so the Dalai Lama can go on an exile for his safety. Yeah, from what I heard in the grapevine, the Dalai Lama is living in the northern part of India (not sure of this location) and some say that they are keeping secret the exact location so the enemies wouldn't easily find him. There are people who want the Dalai Lama dead. Welll, that account was from my friend who is a Buddhist.
