I along with my family visited Jagganath Puri back in 2010.
we decided to visit Chillika Lake the largest costal lagoon in india, from Puri we took a a innova cab that charged around 2000 INR for up and down journey. The Lake is around an hour journey from puri via small villages, forests..
we reached the lake around 1pm.
we hired a boat which costs around 2k for 2 hours or even more. the boatman first took us to a small island where people were trying to sell pearls/ corals etc which are extracted from shells.. the guys who was selling the pearls showed us how he extracts the pearls by breaking the shells..our boatman slightly wisperd "dont buy any of them" he was right ,these were not original pearls so dont fall for them.
after that we continued our journey.. and saw many birds for which chillika is famous and we even spotted the Irrawady dolphin twice.

Many fish catchers are present in the area catching fishes..after a few min. we reacher another island which had Kalijai temple( dedicated to lord kali).. we worshiped her and again got back in the boats.. this island gets crowded during Makar Mela.
There were many small islands here and there, different streams of water from other rivers submerging with lake water. The water is of different colours at some place because of this submerging and feels soo good to see water of different coulours!

at last we visited another island where lake water and the Bay Of Bengal meets commanly known as Sea mouth.. there we ate some wraffers and enjoyed cold drinks.. it would be a nice place for non-vegetarians as crabs, fishes and other sea food is served there. we took some eatables with us and ejoyed them on ride..

The best time to visit it is in winters as alot of migratory birds are found :D

Yes I saw it as 22seconds. Nice one. Please do post pictures if you have some. You may think it is not good because you have already been there for people like me who have not seen Chilka lake , it is still a new thing.

Thanks for sharing. I have always wanted to visit chillika lake and the near by areas but never got a chance. We are planning a long South India tour by the end of this year if my husband can get a month off from work. I will surely include Chillika in the itinerary.

Please use "Light Image Resizer 4" for resizing your images. There is an option to resize the whole folder with this scrip. Just choose size as 512mb and instead of uploading in individual posts just create an album in media gallery. You can bulk upload your images there and then in any post you can just click and choose what to post from your albums.
We can have a 5-6mb limit later on when we move this site to something dedicated. Right now it is on shared hosting and space is limited.
