International Driver's License?

I have gotten an international driver's license in the past, for use of driving throughout Europe and the US. It doesn't cover all countries, though. Does anyone know if a standard international driver's license covers India?

So what is the procedure to be able to drive in India? Also, where would one obtain a license specifically to drive in India? Or are foreigners not allowed to drive there?

You shouldn't want to drive a car there. You could probably save money, but I just took the bus or a taxi. The driving laws and regulations are different than a lot of other countries, so you will stand out on the road. That's my advice. Cheers!
