A trip to the Venkateswara temple is due and getting there would be easy for us, what we don't want to do when we arrive there is spend time looking for rooms. Instead, we would prefer to book online and get the room issue out of the way.

We wanted to know what options do we have for online room booking in Tirumala provided by the temple.

Overview

The Venkateswara Temple, also known as the Tirupati Balaji Temple, is located on the seventh hill of Tirumala, called the Venkatadri. Tirumala itself is located in Tirupati, as a rural hilly town of the region. The Venkateswara Temple is regarded as one of the busiest temples in the world, visited by over 60,000 devotees daily. As such, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) management was created, to handle all issues related with the Venkateswara Temple. The management not only maintains the usual facilities such as darshan counters and food for the devotees, they also handle the accommodation or staying options for the devotees. Cleanliness, affordability and comfort are features of all rooms managed by the TTD. Below, we would highlight the different types of rooms that devotees can book online, their rates and also the process to book any of them.

Rooms Available for Online Booking in Tirumala (Under Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams)

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has allotted 50% of the rooms in Tirumala for advanced paid booking. The remaining 50% of the rooms are allotted for in person bookings, both paid and free. For those who want to book a room in advance in Tirumala, there are two ways of doing so, by the older version of demand draft, or by the newer and easier version of online booking. As mentioned, not all rooms are available for online booking, plus the rush of pilgrims make it harder to find a suitable room in a nearby date or schedule. For convenience, here are your room options, these are the rooms that you can reserve in advance through online booking via the official website of the TTD management.

These are all the rooms available for online booking managed by the TTD. Rooms can be categorised broadly into two categories, namely: non air-conditioned rooms and air-conditioned rooms. All rooms have their own private bathroom and come with two beds. Locations vary depending on which areas still have available rooms but the areas can be be categorised into the following: Sri Padmavathi Guest House Area, Sri Venkateswara Guest House Area, Varahaswami Guest House Area and Marriage Hall Area. Room rates also vary, with the cheapest accommodation option at Rs. 50 per night and the most expensive at Rs. 2,000 per night.

Eligibility for Online Booking of Room in Tirumala (Under TTD)

In order to be eligible for the online room booking of the TTD, you have the fulfil the criteria below. The TTD strictly enforces these criteria so make sure you follow them accordingly.

1. The devotee must book for the room online at least 3 days in advance or a maximum of 90 days in advance. There are no bookings prior to these minimum or maximum allotted days that would be allowed. Further, only 1 booking per account can be done for every 90 days.

2. All accommodations are allotted for at least two persons only. No room would be allotted for a single person. You can, however, book a room for a maximum of 6 persons but only a maximum of 2 rooms can be booked per account.

3. The devotee must use a valid email address and mobile number. Vital information, such as the booking confirmation and one-time password, would be sent in these communication means.

4. The devotee must prepare a photograph to upload in the website for online room booking. The specified photo identification card in the online booking must also be shown in person when availing of the room proper in Tirumala.

5. Finally, the devotee must have a valid debit card or credit card for the payment procedure. Net banking is another way of paying for the online room booking.

Procedures for Online Booking of Room in Tirumala (Under TTD)

On to the online booking process proper, you just need to follow the steps below for a hassle-free experience. Generally, the website of the TTD for online room booking is quite user-friendly but can be buggy at times due to the high number of pilgrims using it.

1. Prior to registering for the TTD website, you can check the available rooms in Tirumala first. To do so, click on this link that would take you to the Availability Calendar of the website. You can check the dates as to when there are still available rooms for booking in both Tirumala and Tirupati. Simply choose Tirumala in the Select a Location section and it will show the dates per month that have available rooms, these are the dates highlighted in green colour. Choose your preferred room, your check-in time slot, the number of persons and also whether you're booking for yourself or for others. Click on Login and it will take you to another page. Alternatively, toggle on the Room Type-Wise Availability button above, scroll down and find out which dates still have available rooms for online booking.

2. On to the next page, you just need to input your details to proceed with the booking. Just enter your name, working email address, valid mobile number and other details. You also need to select which identification proof you'd be bringing with you on the scheduled room booking, plus the photo identification card number. Create your own password and click on Continue. A one-time password would be sent to your mobile number, which you need to input in order to verify your account. Once done, click on Continue again. This time, you need to verify your account by clicking on the verification link sent to your email address.

3. On to the next page, you would be taken to the TTD website after verifying your account. Click on the Services button and it will show the different categories for services offered by the TTD website. Click on the Accommodation button to book your room online. Again, you will be shown the Availability Calendar so choose accordingly as instructed above. Click on Continue once you're done with the details. The next page would show the details about the pilgrim, which you have already filled out during the registration process. You can change your photo identification details, if there's a need. Click on Continue again once done.

4. The next page would be the payment confirmation page. Choose your preferred mode of payment and click on Continue. Once done with the payment, you would then be taken to the booking confirmation page. This booking page would also be sent to your email address, it contains your booking receipt or booking number. You can print it and bring it with you on the day of your scheduled reservation in Tirumala.

These steps complete the online room booking procedure for Tirumala, under the TTD website. Make sure that you reach the CRO Office in Tirumala under the designated check-in time you chose in the room booking. Bring your booking confirmation page and show it to the officer in the office to obtain your accommodation slip of the specific guest house allotted to you. Reach the guest house to obtain the keys to your room and you can have a peaceful darshan thereafter.
