My friend and I are planning to write a book together on the food in India. At the moment we are just getting information together and putting the best-known eating places to the test.

In two weeks time, we will be in Bangalore to explore the places to eat there, and we will need the help of the forum members to provide us with the top 10 restaurants in Bangalore.

It doesn't have to be just Indian restaurants. It can be international cuisines restaurants as well. If someone already provides a list, and yours is different please still list it, as final top ten will be decided after we have tasted the food.

Hello there, welcome to the forum!

Here's a list of the best restaurants in Bangalore:

    1. Big Brewsky - This is a casual dining restaurant which serves North Indian, South Indian, Continental, Italian and Thai cuisines. They also serve a lot of finger foods that go best with their freshly brewed beers. The ambience of the restaurant is very laid-back, no dress codes are imposed and there's background music to keep the place lively. For those looking for some serenity though, there are some corners of the restaurant that is best fit for that. Like this one area where it's near the small pond with fishes, that's a great location for a date. But don't worry, the restaurant is pretty huge and you can find other spots to hangout in. They have a wide variety of dishes, but their pizzas, pastas and finger foods have received the most praises.
    • Address - Behind MK Retail, Before WIPRO Corporate Office, Sarjapur Road, Bangalore.
    • Contact Number/s - +91 8880075000 or +91 7022041711.
    • Best Seller Dishes - Vegetarian Pizza, Kicker Chicken Burger, Garlic Pepper Chicken Tikka and Chicken Wings.
    2. Truffles Ice and Spice - This is a casual dining cafe serving mostly American cuisine. This cafe is best known for their gigantic, yummy burgers. It's one of the best known restaurants in the area, thus there's always a crowd here. Their rates are surprisingly economical and would fit even for students on a budget. Ambience-wise, it's very simple and has a bit of a background music. People keep coming back here because of the food though and it's evident by the long waiting time to get a seat. Aside from their burgers, their deserts are also a hit with guests.
    • Address - 28, 4th 'B' Cross, 5th Block, Koramangala, Koramangala 5th Block, Bangalore.
    • Contact Number/s - 080 49652818.
    • Best Seller Dishes - All American Cheese Burger, Sloppy Joe Burger, Creamy Cheese Sauce Pasta and Ferrero Rocher Shake.
    3. Vidyarthi Bhavan - This restaurant only has vegetarian South Indian cuisine. It is well-known for its dosas, however not as well-known that tourists throng to the place. It's mostly the locals who know about this restaurant and thus, you'd likely find many Bangalorean residents dining here. Ambience-wise, the interior of the restaurant is very simple with war-like benches and chairs. You'd have to share a table with other people during crowded days though, which is everyday. Their ghee laden dosas with chutney, it's a miracle if you consume only one piece of this yummy goodness.
    • Address - 32, Gandhi Bazaar, Near Gandhi Bazaar Circle, Basavanagudi, Bangalore.

    4. Windmills Craftworks - This is a fine dining restaurant serving North Indian and American cuisines. As soon as you enter this restaurant, its well-stocked library and jazz theatre would greet you. Where else in Bangalore can you have both? The interiors of the restaurant are well-thought out and blends well with the theme of the place. The restaurant is well-known for their freshly brewed craft beers so even if you're not a beer lover, it's a must to try this even just once. Their staters and appetisers are worth trying out aside from their delicious main dishes.

    5. Salt Mango Tree - This is a casual dining restaurant serving Keralan cuisine. The ambience of the restaurant is very serene and peaceful, perfect for a night out with a loved one. Their menu is very limited but they do serve authentic Keralan dishes, which are quite hard to find in Bangalore. The perfect blend of spices, with just the right amount of coconut on the curry, takes you to Kerala. Prices are on the high side though so do prepare some money before going here.

They have some deserts as well that can be a nice ending to your meal.

The buffet has starters, main dishes and live counters. Ambience-wise, the restaurant is just plain and has nothing that stands out when it comes to this. You really would go to the restaurant only for the food, which is not bad because it means that their dishes are of good quality.

It's one of the higher end restaurants so prices are on the higher side. The restaurant also has a live juice counter, which serves fresh vegetable and fruit juices. Their desert section is also quite extensive and a must try. Main dishes are comprised of meat, seafood and chicken varieties.

Dal Bukhara is their specialty dish and it's delicious, especially after you learn that it took about 18 hours just to cook it. Do try out their deserts as well.

Recommending the top 10 restaurants would be hard since Bangalore has so many great restaurants. I would recommend deciding on what you really want out of the experience and then visit.

So, I will talk about the unique and not about the best.

I mean on the high end, the most unique restaurant was the Sahib Sindh Sultan. But, since its closed down, I will move on to other restaurants.

    1. Barbeque Nation is great if you're looking for some place with a variety of food that you can barbecue yourself. Try the rabbit.
    2. The Royal Afghan is another - totally different ambiance and great Afghani food. Try any sort of lamb.
    3. The Hole in the Wall - even though they want to define themselves as a cafe, they're more of a restaurant. The ambiance is British and the food is pretty great. Try the desserts.
    4. Little Italy - is exactly what the name suggests. The only other place in India that serves this kind of an authentic Italian food is in Manali. So, you'll really not want to miss this place. Try the ravioli.
    5. Edo - is a japanese eatery that serves all sorts of foods I can't pronounce. But, what I can pronounce is Wow! The place serves some of the most unique blends of Japanese and Indian foods.
    6. The Fatty Bao - is an eastern themed restaurant. They serve thai, vietnames, and all the other south east Asian delicacies you can think of.
    7. Fava - serves Greek, Turkish, and Middle Eastern foods. You can't really go wrong here with ordering.
    8. Dublin - as the name suggests, is an Irish restaurant and pub. Genuine Irish Guinness beer and friendly banter is what this place is known for.
    9. Umerkot - is the place you go to for Mughlai ambiance and Mughlai food.
    10. Trivoli Garden - is a rooftop restaurant. Even though Bangalore has many such rooftop restaurants, none of them even come close to the ambiance of Trivoli. Don't go there for the food, you won't even remember eating once you get to Trivoli.
These are the most unique and amazing restaurants that I actually tried out. But, again, there is so much to do in Bangalore and so many restaurants that a top 10 would be unfair to all the other places that won't make the list.

I would include Barbeque Nation in any top ten places to eat in Bangalore. It's awesome and hell of a good experience. To be fair, I know it's difficult to make a fair list on this topic, since there are so many great restaurants in Bangalore (both veg and non-veg). Just my personal opinion and (bias of my taste buds) says Barbeque Nation should be somewhere in the list :)
