I am from Kolkata and will be getting a train to New Delhi. My destination is Paharganj, and I would like to know how to get from New Delhi railway station to Paharganj. 1. What is the best mode of transport to reach Paharganj from New Delhi railway station, taking into account the Delhi traffic? 2. Is there a metro line which goes to Paharganj? 3. How far is Paharganj from New Delhi railway station?
Hello, @Swiggy! Welcome to the forum! From the New Delhi Railway Station, Paharganj is just about 2.5 kilometres away. You can easily walk to reach Paharganj from the New Delhi Railway Station. It can take you around 25 to 30 minutes to reach Paharganj by walking from the railway station. Make sure that you walk towards Platform 1, where the Paharganj Gate is located. If you walk towards Platform 16, you'd reach the other side, which is where the Ajmeri Gate is located. So walk towards the western side to reach the exit for Paharganj. You won't need to ride a metro train to reach Paharganj from the railway station. The distance is very close so you can just ride an auto or taxi to reach it. Taxi fare would just be around Rs. 120 to Rs. 250, depending on the traffic encountered that day. Auto fare would be cheaper at about Rs. 90 to Rs. 150, depending on the negotiated price. Your other option would be a bus, there are a few passing through the New Delhi Railway Station and can drop you off at Paharganj Police Station. There are different DTC buses plying through this route, namely: Bus No. 894, Bus No. 19, Bus No. 951, Bus No. 355, Bus No. 181, Bus No. 181 A, Bus No. 19 A and Bus No. GL 91. These buses depart from the New Delhi Railway Station Gate Number 1 which is the Paharganj Gate as well. Bus frequency is every 15 to 30 minutes. Fare is very minimal and this is the best option for budget travellers. The nearest metro station to Paharganj is also the New Delhi Metro Station, just adjacent to the New Delhi Railway Station. So it's not applicable to ride the metro as it's located right on Paharganj. I hope this helps you!
