My wife and I are from Toronto, and we will be in Delhi soon for our 15 day holiday. As well as sightseeing we both are looking forward to having food in Delhi as we are fond of food.

Delhi is a very big city, and I am sure there are thousands of places to eat and a lot of famous ones too. We would like some recommendations for the places to eat in Delhi. We are both Indian, so we love Indian food as well as continental food, so don't worry about the type of Indian food you are recommending, as long as it is good and popularly known.

Hi there, welcome to the forum, @Nihar!

Delhi is not only blessed with historical landmarks, it also has plenty of restaurants for the foodies. While some destinations cover only a few cuisines, Delhi has varying cuisines, ranging from local, up to international ones. So whether you're craving for Indian food, or maybe you miss your food back home, there's always some place that you can go to and have your cravings satisfied. Sweets, street foods and even beverages are part of the culinary experience that you shouldn't miss when in Delhi.

Best Places to Eat in Delhi

    For authentic Indian cuisine...

    1. Indian Accent (The Manor) - Topping the list is one of Asia's top 50 restaurants, Indian Accent in The Manor. Featuring minimalistic interiors, with just a few wall paintings and modern hanging lamps, the restaurant is very pleasing to the eyes. There's also an outdoor seating area, taking you to the greener side of Delhi. The restaurant serves Indian dishes with a modern twist. For example, they have this Tandoori Prawn Wrapped with Bacon with a Dash of Wasabi Malai. The prawn is cooked just soft enough, not chewy at all, and the bacon is an added twist that actually compliments the dish. The dash of wasabi malai cream adds that kick into this starter dish. Such dishes make this impact about the restaurant, as they do not only put their heart into meals, they make meals into work of arts in themselves. You can even opt for their vegetarian three-course meal or their non-vegetarian three-course meal, so that you can sample a myriad of dishes from the restaurant. Although on the higher side when it comes to prices, Indian Accent won't disappoint in satiating your love for Indian food.

    2. Masala Library - From its proprietor, Jiggs Kalra, the first Asian ever to be part of the International Food and Beverages Gourmet Hall of Fame, Masala Library is yet another game changer in the Delhi line of fine dining restaurants. Ambience? Check! With overhanging chandeliers, dim lighting and soft music, it won't disappoint even the snottiest food critic. Food here is also Indian with a modern twist, wherein you can choose between their Chef's Special or order just ala carte meals. The Chef's Special is a 19-course meal that you can pair along with different wines. It's value for money because you can taste different meals just for Rs. 2,300 per person. When it comes to their Indian meals with a modern twist, you'd be pleasantly surprised. For instance, their Deconstructed Samosa doesn't look anything like a samosa, yet when you munch on the dish, it tastes like an authentic samosa. Their Sheermal Galouti Kebab is a fusion of flavours that explodes in your mouth into a gastronomical experience.

The Carnatic Cafe has garnered much attention because they serve the best South Indian dishes along with a homely atmosphere. The setting of the cafe takes you back to simpler times and the culinary experience becomes more authentic just because of that. Their dosas are incredibly crispy on the outside but fluffy as soon as you bite into it. They also use pure desi ghee instead of refined oil, which many South Indian restaurants use. They have a limited menu but all meals here are quite delicious and worth trying out. It is also noteworthy to mention that their chutneys have lots of variety and served very thick. Zaffran specialises in North Indian and Mughlai cuisines. Their menu is extensive, it even has separate sections for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. For the food lovers, it's a must to try out their vegetarian or non-vegetarian platter. These are starter meals with lots of variety so you get a taste of different dishes of the restaurant. The main dishes that stand out here are their Laal Maas and Dal Makhani.
