I am from California and got married in India about 10 years ago. I now need my marriage certificate for some important paperwork, but can't find my original marriage certificate. I was wondering whether a reissue of the marriage certificate is available in India?

If it is, please advice from where?

You are able to get a certified copy of the original marriage certificate from the marriage registrar in India.

It is important that you go to the same registrar office where you registered your marriage, as that's the only place from where you would be able to obtain a copy.

In order to reissue your marriage certificate you need to take note of the following:

Application Form: You need to get the application form for reissuing a marriage certificate that is available at the local municipal corporation or sub-registrar office where your marriage was registered.

Required Documents: In order to get a re-issuance of your marriage certificate you should make sure you have the following documents.

Application form duly filled and signed
    Original marriage certificate (if available)
Identity and address proof of both spouses (Aadhar card, passport, voter ID, etc.)
Proof of marriage (wedding invitation card, photographs, affidavit, etc.)
Copy of the original marriage registration form (if available)
Affidavit stating the reason for reissuing the certificate
Any other documents required by your local authority

: Prepare an affidavit, specifying the reasons for reissuing the certificate. This affidavit needs to be signed by both spouses and notarized.

    Verification and Processing
: The authorities will verify the documents and process your request. This may involve checking the records and cross-verifying the information provided.

Fees: The fee amount can vary depending on the state and local regulations.

Collection of Certificate: Once the reissued marriage certificate is ready, you will need to visit the office again to collect it. Make sure to carry any receipts or acknowledgments you received during the application process.
