My family and I will be in Udaipur next week, and we wish to extend our visit by going to Ranthambore in Sawai Madhopur. We will have our own car, and we wanted to know whether we can drive from Udaipur to Sawai Madhopur. Is it a good idea to drive from Udaipur to Sawai Madhopur or should we get public transport?

The distance from Udaipur to Sawai Madhopur is 7- 8 hours, depending on your ability to drive you can manage the trip in one day otherwise make a stopover, or if you are going in a group change drivers. The road condition is good so reagrding this matter there is no issue.
Public transport is an option you can take but it would take slightly longer, and if you will have small childen with you, then your own vehicle would be convinient.

The distance between Udaipur and Sawai Madhopur is about 402.7 kms via National Highway 27 and Kota-Lalsot Mega Highway. Travel time can take anywhere between seven to nine hours. It depends on the traffic you encounter and how many stopovers you take. You can definitely take your car and it's probably the most comfortable and convenient option. Public transport can take an even longer time and might be uncomfortable for the older and younger people.

The route you have to take is:

Udaipur > Chittor > Kota > Lakheri > Sawai Madhopur.

Road conditions are generally good. All roads have two lanes as well so it can be an easy to moderate drive. It's very scenic as well so there's lots of picture-taking opportunities. Stopovers can be on Chittor or Kota although Chittor has a great fort you can visit.

If you'd decide to take public transport still, you can take the train. The Mewar Express and Udaipur-Jaipur Superfast have buses from Udaipur to Sawai Madhopur.
