My flight to Bangalore is from Delhi in the evening. I will be traveling from Haryana and will be arriving in Delhi before either a day before or on the same day in the morning.

To avoid the city traffic, I would like to get the Metro to get to the airport, and I would like to know how to reach terminal 1d Delhi airport by metro?

When arriving in Delhi a day before I would be staying somewhere near Connaught Place and if I arrive on the same day I will get the metro from the bypass.

    Overview

The Delhi Airport Metro Express is a world-class rapid transit that links the Indira Gandhi International Airport to the centre of Delhi. It is also designated as the Orange Line, a part of the Delhi Metro, which begins at the IGI Airport Metro Station and terminates at the New Delhi Metro Station. It is also connected to the Dwarka Sector 21 Metro Station. Going to the main metro station of the airport, the IGI Airport Metro Station, it is located just around 650 metres away from the Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport. This main station is about eight kilometres away from the Terminal 1D of the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Your next best option is to reach the Delhi Aerocity Metro Station instead, which is around six kilometres away from the Terminal 1D of the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

    The Delhi Airport Metro Express

In total, the Delhi Airport Metro Express has six stations. The table below showcases these various stations along with their connection/s, layout and distance from the Terminal 1D of Indira Gandhi International Airport. As you can see from the table, the Delhi Aerocity Metro Station is the closest to this terminal, the Terminal 1D (Domestic Flights) of the IGI Airport, at just around six kilometres away. The Delhi Aerocity Metro Station is the succeeding station after the IGI Airport Metro Station, which continues to the northern or central part of the city. So the conclusion for travellers is that for those who need to reach Terminal 3, alight at the IGI Airport Metro Station and for those who need to reach Terminal 1, alight at the Delhi Aerocity Metro Station.

The Nearest Metro Stations to Connaught Place

There are also six metro stations that are closest to the Connaught Place, where you would be staying in Delhi. Now we would figure out which would be your best metro station option when staying in Connaught Place. From the table below, you would see that the Rajiv Chowk Metro Station is the closest to the centre of Connaught Place, just 200 metres away or just a few minutes of walking away. The downside is that this station is not directly connected to the Delhi Airport Metro Express. So your next best option is none other than the Shivaji Stadium Metro Station, which is around 1.3 kilometres away from the centre of Connaught Place. It has direct metro connectivity to the IGI Airport via the Delhi Airport Metro Express or Orange Line.

Reaching the IGI Airport via the Delhi Airport Metro Express (From Connaught Place)

We have covered your departing station from Connaught Place and also your alighting station to reach the Terminal 1D of IGI Airport. Now we go to your journey proper, from Shivaji Stadium Metro Station in Connaught Place, to the Delhi Aerocity Metro Station close to the Terminal 1D of IGI Airport. So if ever you're staying at an area quite further from the Shivaji Stadium Metro Station, ride an auto rickshaw that would take you to this metro station. Buy a ticket for the Delhi Aerocity Metro Station, board the train and alight at the designated station. Frequency is around every 10 to 20 minutes, more or less. Journey duration won't take more than 20 minutes and fare is very minimal at Rs. 50 per person. You can refer to the table below for the first and last train timings from Dwarka Sector 21 and from New Delhi.

How to Reach the Terminal 1D from Delhi Aerocity Metro Station

So by now, you would have already reached the Delhi Aerocity Metro Station. But the question is, how do you reach the Terminal 1D from here, which is still six kilometres away? This distance is not walkable so that's out of your options. Fortunately, there are feeder buses just outside the Delhi Aerocity Metro Station that transfers passengers to the Terminal 1D of IGI Airport. They also go the other way round, from Terminal 1D to the Delhi Aerocity Metro Station. Fares are very minimal at Rs. 30 and frequency of buses is every 15 minutes or so. Journey duration is also around 15 minutes to reach either Terminal 1D or Delhi Aerocity Metro Station. You can refer to the table below for the first and last timings of these feeder buses.

First and Last Bus Timings (For Terminal 1D from Delhi Aerocity)

    ScheduleFrom Delhi AerocityFrom Terminal 1
    First Bus6:006:00
    Last Bus23:0023:00
If ever you have many luggages with you, you can opt to just ride a cab to reach the Terminal 1D from the Delhi Aerocity Metro Station. Fare would be around Rs. 150 to Rs. 250 and you would reach the terminal within 10 minutes. This is also applicable for those who can't make it to the timings of the feeder buses which don't run all throughout the day or night. This is also applicable for those who need to catch their flight and just don't have the time to spare to wait for the buses or its loading of the passengers.

An Alternative Journey You Can Take

One alternative you can take is to reach the Terminal 3 via the IGI Airport Metro Station. So you have the same journey as above, only you alight at the IGI Airport Metro Station instead of the Delhi Aerocity Metro Station. Journey duration would be around 20 minutes and fare would be at Rs. 60 per passenger. From the Terminal 3, there are shuttles that transfer passengers to Terminal 1 of the IGI Airport. These shuttles are operated by the DTC or Delhi Transport Corporation. Frequency is every 10 to 20 minutes and journey would take around 20 to 30 minutes, more or less. You can refer to the table below for the first and last bus timings.

First and Last Bus Timings (From Terminal 3 to Terminal 1)

    ScheduleFrom Terminal 3From Terminal 1
    First Bus2:553:15
    Last Bus22:1522:35
    Conclusion

Reaching Terminal 1D of the IGI Airport is very easy to achieve. The nearest metro station to it is the Delhi Aerocity Metro Station, around six kilometres away. If coming from Connaught Place, just reach the Shivaji Stadium Metro Station which is directly connected to the Delhi Aerocity Metro Station. If coming from other sections of the city, just reach the New Delhi Metro Station which is also linked to the Delhi Aerocity Metro Station. From the Delhi Aerocity Metro Station, ride any of the feeder buses that transfer passengers to Terminal 1D of the airport. Alternatively, you can also instead continue your journey until the IGI Airport Metro Station which is directly connected to the Terminal 3. Outside Terminal 3, there are shuttles operated by the DTC that transfer passengers to Terminal 1.

    I hope this helps you!:)
