    Jaisalmer is a city in Rajasthan which is full of history and is known for the popular Thar dessert. Amoung the dessert there is plenty of other things to see and do in Jaisalmer which have been mentioned below.


    Jaisalmer Fort
    The popular attraction in Jaisalmer is the Jaisalmer Fort which was built by Raja Jaisal in the year 1156 AD. The fort is made up of sand stone which gives the fort a golden look which is why it is also known as the Sonar Quila which means Golden Fort. Jaisalmer Fort is one of the largest forts in the world, which is why this is must see.
    Jaisalmer Fort has also been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.


    Bada Bagh
    For those who understand Hindi would know what Bada Bagh means, which is huge garden and thats what the name of one the attractions in Jaisalmer is. The Bada Bagh was designed and built during the 16th century. At first the garden was used for the cremation of nobles and their families.
    For photographers this is a beautiful site to visit especially during sunrise and sunset hours.


    Sam Sand Dunes
    A dessert safari in Jaisalmer is not to be missed, as it if the highlight of the destination. Sam Sand Dunes is the perfect location for the safari experience, where one can enjoy camel rides, watch the sun set. The best time to visit the Sam Sand Dunes is in February when the yearly festival is held, where you can see folk dances and other cultural events.


    Gadisar Lake
    Gadisar Lake was first constructed by Rawal Jaisal and later reconstructed in 1367 AD by Maharawal Garsi. The water in the lake was most useful for the people living in the dessert and they relied on the water for their daily needs.
    Around the banks of the river there are many temples and holy shrines and small chattris which also should be visited. There is a particular place near the lake where you get incredible views and that the entrance of the lake which is made of sandstone. To get a proper view of the

    Is Sam Sand Dunes the name of the actual place or a company which provides packages for the dessert? I have read about it but never been clear to what it is, simply because of the name Sam Sand Dune, which sounds very modern.

    Yes it is the name of the actual place and is around 42km from the main town of Jaisalmer.
