We have planned for a trip to Khajuraho from Chennai. We will be leaving Chennai on 25th of June by Ganga-Kavery Superfast Express (Train No 12669). The train will arrive at Satna station just after midnight on 27th of June. We plan to stay in the railway station for the night before proceeding to Khajuraho the next morning.

We need information about the transportation option from Satna to Khajuraho. We are a group of backpackers on a tight budget. We would prefer to avail bus service if there is bus connectivity from Satna to Khajuraho. Can we get direct buses from Satna to Khajuraho? Someone who has previously been to Khajuraho from Satna please let us know the Satna-Khajuraho bus details with timings, if possible.
 
Khajuraho is situated at a distance of around 115 KM from the Satna town. Bus connectivity between Satna and Khajuraho is pretty decent and the road condition is also good. It takes around 4 hours to reach Khajuraho from Satna by bus. Besides the buses run by MPSRTC, there are lots of private bus operators that operate buses between Satna and Khajuraho. The first bus to Khajuraho from Satna Bus Stand departs at 6:30 AM and you can get a bus every hour till late in the evening. The one-way fare is around INR 70.

There are some luxury tourist bus operators at Satna which offer day-trip to Khajuraho. These buses are much more comfortable than the ordinary MPSRTC buses. The tourist buses usually depart in the morning hours, and take you back to Satna in the evening after sightseeing in Khajuraho. In terms of cost, these buses are a little expensive. You will have to shell out around INR 300-350 to visit Khajuraho by the luxury tourist buses.

The distance between Satna and Khajuraho is about 116.8 kms which is just two hours of driving via a car. But if you take a bus, it can take much longer. Fortunately, there are direct buses from Satna to Khajuraho. It does take them longer to reach Khajuraho though because of the constant picking up of the passengers. You don't need to worry about the road conditions as they're essentially good. From Satna to Khajuraho via bus, it can take four hours to reach the latter.

Bus fare can cost as low as Rs 65 but it can get higher depending on what type of bus you take. Thankfully, the buses arrive on time almost all the time. The earliest bus arrives at 6:30 am and thereafter, every hour, there's a bus you can take. Since you are on a tight budget, this is the best option for you. Taxis can cost a lot especially if you cover that distance from your departure point to your arrival point.
